AIN established in 1979 as a branch of the Royal Institute of Navigation, soon after, become independent institute under the Egyptian legislations. AIN office is established in the coastal city Alexandria, Egypt. The present of full membership is about 400 members, with various backgrounds, of faculties of education institutes, mariners, and shipping and aviation personnel.
The main objective of the institute is gathering those interested in the art and science of navigation, and foster for better development and wide dissemination of the related information. AIN activities includes monthly meeting to discuss new or current applications for navigation, organize annual national conferences and call for biannual international conferences under the title of Melaha. AIN publishes both quarterly bulletin of Melaha and the annual Journal of Navigation.
AIN is an active member of the International Association of the Institute of Navigation and observer member in the International Committee for "Global Navigation Satellite Systems” (ICG).
